Meet the Horses!!!

Arrow is an older ex-dude ranch horse. He is a sweet old gelding with a calm disposition and a willing temperament. He is well trained and can be ridden by anyone and their dog even in chaotic environments such as at horse sales. He is sound and healthy with a good old boy charm. Arrow still has a lot of life left to give and can easily be a mild trail horse or someones first horse. He is gentle enough for children and sturdy enough for husbands.

Aslan is a 11 year old Percheron / Belgian cross draft gelding. He stands about 15.3hh and currently weighs around 1,600 lbs. He is a gentle soul who gets along well with horses and dogs. He loves people and looks to us for reassurance and direction. He is trained to ride out on the trails, to drive a carriage and sleigh, and to pull logs. Despite his training, he is only a pasture pet as he is no longer sound enough for work.

Axel is a calm, sweet, good natured and gentle mare. She loves people and very easy to handle. Pretty darn unspookable she is a nice dependable horse to have around. Axel is the same day to day no matter if she is ridden or not. She is a very smart alpha mare who takes excellent care of her herd - horses and people. She would be an excellent trail horse for a husband or advanced beginner rider after a tune up.

Breeze is basically the perfect example of Hard Luck Horses' mission statement and she ought to be our poster child. Breeze is an extremely good horse that has really just had a run of bad luck. She is a very sweet and gentle mare who seems more then willing to take other horses under her wing. She is a dream to work with and has excellent manners. She is very well broke, suitable for most any level rider and has had a lot of trail experience. She is going to make a fine riding horse.

Britta is a sweet and affectionate mare who picks her person and is very loyal to them. She gets along with all the other horses and is a low drama kind of girl. She is well mannered and broke to ride even for beginner riders. Britta has been mainly a trail and pleasure horse who is generally very calm and laid back. She is not herd bound to the other horses and can be ridden out alone as long as she is with "her person".

Quite frankly, Brujo is the most perfect horse I have ever had the pleasure of being around. I will never understand why his previous owners tried to send him to slaughter. Brujo is a nice big boy who is absolutely gorgeous. He is a dead broke horse that anyone can ride once he likes you. He really takes care of his rider and I have put little kids up on him with no worries. Brujo is also nearly a miracle worker with other horses. You can put him in with badly abused horses and within a short time start seeing a difference in the attitude of the abused horse.

Casper is an extremely emaciated white Arabian gelding. He is definitely one of the skinniest horses that I have ever seen, although he appears to be otherwise healthy. He is probably about a "1" on the Henneke scale although his thick fur and white coat tend to make photos not show the true extent of his emaciation. He is reported to be a kid safe saddle horse.

Casper was a joint effort between Rodeo51 and HLH... Rodeo51 has decided to keep Casper! :)

Charity is an old pack mule. She has worked hard all her life and she has an abundance of scars and old injuries to prove it. She needs a retirement home and has nothing to offer except her love. Luckily this mule is super loving and affectionate. Give her a chance and she will charm her way right into your heart.

Chevy is a half-draft foal who has had a real rough start in life. At this point she is just being a baby and having fun with the herd. I have been working with her on her ground work and she is doing nicely. She is very friendly with people, confident around other horses, very smart with an aptitude for learning and she has one heck of a playful personality.

Cisco is an extremely sweet and personable little Appy gelding who absolutely adores people. He has had a couple different careers; the last of which was as a string horse in the mountains (riding and packing), but he has at some time in his past also done arena work. He is well broke, well mannered, pretty much bombproof, willing to please and very people orientated. This boy will do whatever you ask of him, and although he would prefer to go fast, he will follow his rider's command flawlessly.

Deena was adopted before ever actually making it to my facility. She is a good quality registered Appaloosa mare and is only nine years old. I suppose that technically she would be considered a strawberry roan, but honestly, she looks almost pink. She is easy to handle, with nice manners and a friendly personality. She is broke to ride and it turns out that she is pretty good around barrels.

Dingo loves people and he is very friendly - almost dog like. He will follow you around and wants you to pay attention to him all the time. I just can't really overstate how friendly he has become and how much he likes people. He is now fully halter broke, but he is still a little rustier then I would like with that, so I am still working with him. He can now have his feet done without drama and he is pretty easy to work with when it comes to new things.

Dragon is a tank of a draft pony. He is 7 years old and stands about 14hh. This "pony" is really just a short draft horse and is perfectly capable of handling adult riders. He rides English & Western, but really does need an intermediate rider or better in order to shine. This boy is super sweet, with an in your pocket personality and is not at all spooky.

Dude is a sweet young palomino pony gelding. He is a fairly stocky little guy who can carry a small teenager, but is gentle enough for a child. Dude has a very laid back and calm temperament and tends to want to make friends with everyone of both the equine and the human kinds. Dude is greenbroke to ride and has all his ground work done, but he is still learning and can sometimes be stubborn.

Fancy is a sweet mare with a lot of get-up-and-go. She gets along very well with other horses and is trained to ride both English and Western, although she has most recently been used as a western trail horse. She is very, very well trained and an absolute joy of a trail horse. She is one of those horses who wants a job and wants to do well at it.

Fresca is a pure white Appaloosa Akhal Teke cross mare with tons and tons of small black spots. She is sound, healthy, and up to date on everything. In the arena she is suitable for a beginner and is more then willing to do anything asked of her with both style and class. When ridden alone out on the trails she needs an intermediate rider or else she will attempt to turn back and go home. Fresca is a sweet and extremely intelligent mare who always knows exactly where her feet are and has fantastic carriage with an absolutely amazingly wonderful trot that can go forever

Froggy is a sweet bay pony. He is broke to ride and is large enough that some adults would be able to ride him. Although he is a pony he is more like a small horse then your standard pony confirmation. He is very sweet and he likes attention although he seems to expect strangers to hurt him. He seems to have an affinity for children and is very calm around them. When you are sweet to him he will follow you around like a puppy dog and stand by you for hours.

Goblin is a very sweet little pony who really doesn't realize that he is small. He loves the big horses and gets along with everyone. He adores children (and they adore him!) and he seems to be extra careful around them. Goblin is broke to ride and is very tolerant of child riders. He can be lead around leadline, or children can ride him on their own.

Goose is a gray appy mini gelding. He is approximately 13 years old and around 35" in height. He is a very timid little horse, but is actually very sweet and calm natured once he is sure you won't hurt him. He is halterbroke and will let you do most anything with him so long as you go slowly, calmly, and talk softly to him.

Gossip is a 6 year old 15hh black and white registered Pinto mare said to be of Andalusian breeding. She has spent the last five months in professional training and is now broke to ride and getting ready for her new home. She has been out on trails and she loves them. On the trails she will lead, follow, whatever and she will go right through water or anything else you point her at. She has no problems in the arena either and has even done a schooling show in Dressage. She will ride out in both English, Western and even bit-less. Gossip is not a spooky or complicated horse and is as honest as the day long. With more miles and a couple more years she will even make a great kids horse. That is the kind of temperament that she has. This is not a horse you have to force or bully, but a soft mare who will do anything for a kind word. She bathes, stands for the farrier, is good for the vet and jumps into trailers with no problems. She has no vices, problems or holes - she just is young but has readily taken to her training. Gossip is fully up to date on her vet work, farrier work and her worming.

Guardian (Garda) is an 11 year old registered APHA mare. She is built like a tough little bulldog and is sweet as can be. This mare is one of those once-in-a-lifetime horses. She is very intelligent and she just soaks up whatever you want to teach her. She goes English, Western, in arena and out on the trails. She has been to a horse show and did very well. Garda needs a home where she will get to work. She likes having a job and is more than willing. Because she is early in her training she is only available to an intermediate or better rider. This mare will be a beginner horse before long, but for now she needs a rider who won't instill bad habits in her.

Hobo is almost certainly the sweetest Appy gelding that I have ever met. He is full of personality, character, good nature and affection. He is very nicely behaved and is exceptionally good around young horses and children. He is broke to ride and apparently rides nicely, even for child riders. He has been used as a trail horse and was likely shown at some distant point in his past.

This big gray boy looks like a draft cross with his blocky head, thick bones, huge feet and upright build... however he is a branded BLM Mustang. Hunter, is a 21 year old mountain horse who has been-there-done-that up in the high country. Over the hills, through the woods, splashing through the river we go. He is a perfectly sound, healthy, well mannered, well broke, gentleman of a horse. Hunter is one of those very rare horses whom I trust to take care of his rider in the deep woods... regardless of if that rider is young, inexperienced, timid, or even injured.

Huntress is a sweet young Arabian mare who has fallen on hard times. She is currently a severe rehabilitation project, but is expected to have a good recovery. Standing at 15hh this mare is on the larger side for an Arab and has a beautiful typey build to her. Huntress is currently only halter broke, but we will be getting her trained in the coming year. At this time we anticipate gearing her training towards a future as a western trail horse.

Jinxy is a solid chestnut filly of Spanish blood. She was born on 4/3/16 from the Andalusian cross mare Gossip, but her father is unknown. Jinxy is quite the little spit fire and is constantly running around looking for trouble to get into. She has had little handling but thinks that humans are the most interesting things ever and is not afraid of us.

Josta is a beautiful mare with loads of potential for the person willing to put the work into her. She is built like a tank and she is very flashy. At only 4 years old she is basically a blank slate aside from her reluctance with the vet. She is a highly intelligent horse - too intelligent really - and has shown some ability at problem solving. She is an escape artist who can untie her ropes, unlatch fences and even jump out of fences. Even still she seems to like human contact and will hide behind her people when she is frightened of something.

When I first met Kaiser I knew I was going to have to shoot him. I am glad I was wrong. Kaiser is certainly not the friendliest of horses, but he is a terrific riding horse. He is very well trained and he seems to be very eager to please his rider. At 15 hands he is one of the smallest Appaloosas I have dealt with, but he doesn't seem to know it. This little horse has a huge heart and an indomitable will to pull through whatever life throws at him. He is also one of the very few horses who I have seen that needs no bridle or halter at all.

Kelta is a sweet and willing mare who has nearly perfect ground manners, knows all the natural horsemanship games, neck reins, sidepasses, knows leg and voice commands, moves off your seat, and halts from seat cues. Her favorite gait is a smooth jog but when you get her moving she picks up her feet nicely. She has been trained for vaulting, dressage, jumping, pleasure shows, halter and has been used as both a lesson and a therapy horse.

Loki is a young miniature gelding who is currently still learning to be a well mannered equine citizen. He, however, has a great mind and has never been mistreated so I have very high hopes for his future. He is learning at a very fast pace and is a little gem of a horse.

Mama is like everyone's mother. She is sweet, gentle, nurturing and will take care of you. But she demands respect and she occasionally tells you her opinion no matter if you want to hear it or not. Mama is an older mare who is been there done that. She is a no muss - no fuss kind of mare who can be ridden in the arena or the trails with no warm up after being out to pasture for months.

Maverick is a chestnut and white pinto mini gelding who stands 33". Maverick is a very sweet and good natured little fellow, but he has earned his name by proving to be a quite capable escape artist. He gets along well with other horses, the dogs, the rabbits, but his patience does not extend far enough to cover my ornery goat Ria. In hand Maverick behaves very well and he is no trouble at all to catch. He leads extremely well, ties, backs, leaps into and out of trailers and generally is just a quiet and kind fellow. His one flaw so far seems to be that he is afraid of the farrier.

Mercy is an old pack mule who has worked hard all her life and is looking for an easy going home now. She likely can still be ridden or packed lightly, but her hard working days are done. Mercy is the first one to run up and greet you, but she is a little more wary than Charity. She wants to be your friend and is willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, especially if you have treats.

Neon is a well built and nicely minded Appy mare who is smart, absolutely level headed, sane and about as rock solid as they come. She is extremely people friendly to the point where she glues herself to your side. She has an amazing mind for her age, is sweet, trusting, steadfast and always willing. She is not in the least little bit herd bound and instead focuses on people rather then horses.

Nimir is an excellent kids horse, in fact she doesn't really care for adults. When she sees children she comes running to them and is very good and careful with them. She has obviously been a show horse and has had some dressage training in her past. She has had some severe issues with sarcoids, but that this has been dealt with. She is a fairly young Arabian with the attitude and training to take a kid far. She is suitable for some Western disciplines, but is really an English horse.

Rain is an older black Shetland cross pony mare. Rain is a very sweet and gentle older pony mare. She is extremely well mannered and does her best to please. She used to be a pony-ring horse and before that a children's English lesson pony. She is kind enough for young children to handle. Rain gets along well with other horses, but is also fine on her own. She is broke to ride and drive, but it has been years since she has done either.

Riot is a fairly young black and white paint gelding. He stands about 15.2hh and weights 1450 lbs. He was once a parade and Charo horse who chased cows upon occasion. He was used to living his life out at pasture and then being brought in to perform every now and again. Riot is respectful, well behaved and he tries very hard. All Riot seems to want is to be a good boy. He is very wary of people and seems to expect us to hurt him, but isn't afraid of much else and actually isn't very spooky.

Rustic is a small, cow-bred boy who apparently about a year ago badly broke one of his legs. The leg has not healed correctly and there are some serious complicating factors. Rustic is sweet, friendly and personable and although he takes a little bit to warm up to new people, he is like a puppy following you around. He is very active and loves to run, buck, jump and play with the other horses.

Shalla is an older off-track Thoroughbred race horse. She is very calm, gentle and well mannered. This great lady only recently came off of the feedlot and I am still getting to know her. She is in poor condition but does not appear to have been otherwise mistreated. We'll see what she can do this coming spring/summer when she has been rehabbed and is up to snuff.

Shasta is a very nice Appaloosa mare who is undoubtedly very well bred, but I was never able to get her papers. She is a sweetheart of a horse who will mob you for attention. She really thinks that she is a lap pony and that you should cuddle with her. That being said, she is also very alpha marish with the other horses and can bully other horses if they are not confident. She is well broke and she is another one of the horses who have given pony rides to the summer kids. She is a rock solid mare who is big enough for a man to ride but gentle enough for a child.

Shimmer is a nice young Rocky Mountain Horse cross breed. He is a beautiful gray color that has different patterns and changes with the light. Sometimes he even appears to be a gray brindle. He is a sweet horse and seems to crave human attention. The other horses do not care for him, but he is good with them. I have been told that he is a racker, but I am unfamiliar with those gaits and so would not want to say for sure. He appears to be well handled and is just a nice boy.

Sissy's name used to be Sassy and frankly she deserves the name Sassy more. This extremely well bred mare is small, but she doesn't know it and has quickly set herself up as the alpha of our little herd here. She is a been-there-done-that trail horse who has been used for everything from trails, to barrels, to lessons and beyond. Sissy is all heart and she will go over, under, or through anything and can be ridden my most folks.

Skandal is a 15.2hh 11 year old registered Paint mare. She is a confident and fearless trail horse, who is at home in the woods or arena. She is trained with natural horsemanship methods, and knows pretty much everything. She is big, sound, healthy and courageous. However, the most impressive thing about this horse is her mind. She is an extremely intelligent mare who thinks things through. Skandal is a confident, fair, firm and self-assured alpha mare who requires her rider to be her equal. Earn this mare's trust and respect and she'll be the best friend you have ever had.

Spice is a very friendly chestnut mini mare who has a bit of flare and an over the top personality. She likes people, gets along with other horses, and has not been bad around dogs. Spice is very sure of herself and she can be a bit dramatic about her opinions, but generally she is a good girl. She is halter broke, comes when called, and is good about her feet. The only concern I really have with Spice is her weight and she will need to be monitored for that.

Stormy is a sweet little true black pony who is afraid of nothing and is very gentle. This pony is one of those horses that would be able to do almost any event that someone asked of her and she has the personality to make it a dream. Stormy is always the very first one to greet you at the fence and follows me around like a puppy. She seems to be very calm, tolerant and eager to please. I can see this little girl going on to show and taking some little girl as far as she cares to go.

Sugar is a young white miniature gelding. He is exactly what his name implies: sweet as sugar. This boy is a lover not a fighter! He is super duper friendly, affectionate and people orientated. He likes other horses and even the dogs, but if a person is out there he is their little pale shadow. He follows you all around begging for attention and love. Sugar is extremely well mannered and has all his ground work down pat. He appears to be perfectly healthy and I have no worries or concerns about him at all.

Sweet Year is an older OTTB mare who has been in the rescue system for almost half her life and has bounced back and forth between several rescues. She is a bold, bright, daring and trustworthy mare. She rides both English and Western and has even had a tiny bit of Dressage training. Sweet Year is confident enough for intermediate riders but safe enough for beginners. She can be a bit herdbound and is hard to fit for a saddle, but neither of those are insurmountable. Sweet Year is currently in rehab and will be evaluated later for either riding, retirement, or worst case, euthanasia.

Tango is just a nice honest boy. He is good natured and has decent manners but probably has not had any other training done with him. He is a nicely built young gelding who will mature to be a nice solid horse suitable for most western disciplines. He is playful and not spooky, and he gets along with other horses. A really nice prospect for someone who wants to train him their way.

Tara is the sweetest horse that I have ever met. She genuinely loves people and wants to be with you all the time. She is well mannered, easy to handle, obliging and willing. Her greatest joy is just to stand quietly with you while you brush her. Her front feet show the abuse of chronic founder and while she moves soundly out on the grass and appears to be without pain there, however the question will be if she can be kept pain-free long term.

Tarkh has the most beautiful movement that I have seen on any horse. When he runs folks just stop and stare. The power, grace, and beauty of Tarkh in motion is truly amazing. Unfortunately he hard to catch, can be spooky and can be very suspicious of people.

Trinka is an approximately 13 year old, 11.2hh, bay roan varnished, appaloosa type pony mare. This lovely little pony embodies all the ideals we wish for in a pony and so rarely find. She is patient, kind, gentle, tolerant, willing and sweet. She is quiet, polite and well mannered.

This girl is a sweet heart! She is a been-there-done-that easy going people pleaser. She handles everything in stride and has obviously been a trail horse. She is gaited and appears sound and healthy, but she is herdbound. She could be ridden by a beginner rider if she was taken along with a horse buddy, but for single riding she should have an intermediate rider.
