Riot Gets Microchipped

Microchipping is a great way to provide your horse with a little extra protection. If your horse is ever lost, stolen, or escapes a microchip can allow officials to look up your information and return your horse to you. A microchip can also be used as a form of identification if you ever need proof of who your horse is. In addition, should you ever rehome your horse and that horse ends up at an auction, feedlot, rescue or on its way to slaughter, there is a chance your horse could be scanned and you called.

Microchipping is quick, painless, cheap and easy, but many folks are under the impression that it is an invasive procedure. Here is a video where Dr Dana Bridges Westerman demonstrates just how easy it is to microchip a horse.

About a month ago I posted a video of a colt getting microchipped while sedated for his gelding procedure. This caused some confusion as folks thought horses had to be sedated in order to be microchipped. Here is a second video with Riot being microchipped while awake. Riot is a bit sensitive of a horse and other horses I have had microchipped didn't even flinch.
